Night is the Phantom who is more than a little mad and prone to violent fits of temper. Here is the Phantom that will drive divas offstage by turning their voices to frog croaks, who will hang a man from the rafters if the patrons of his opera do not obey his demands, and who will drop the crystal chandelier into the audience and care less for how many may die. He is jealous and bitter towards the world, with Chrisphene being the only other soul he has tentatively allowed into his heart. His love for her is undeniable, but uncertain. Having no experience with courting or wooing, his untried, subservient affection can easily swing back into the rage he would freely deliver on anyone else, leaving him somewhat like an emotional pendulum between his two halves.
