Burke is rather a hard character to like, unless you have a fondness for cowardly scumbags. The little rukel has the mind of a ruthless businessman, seeking profit at any cost. All things are tools, even other beings, when he's in pursuit of a goal. Of course, since the Ranch of DOOM is the project he's adopted as his own, the Ranch itself isn't in too much danger of suffering from his machinations, but its inhabitants are another story entirely! If Burke doesn't think someone is an asset to the Ranch, he makes a fuss about them, which leads to all sorts of irritation from both his target and his target's friends.
He is also, as mentioned, a coward. Though not charmingly charismatic, he does have a rather slick way of talking and convincing others, at least until they see through him and start to get annoyed. Then, when confronted, Burke turns tail and runs if he can't talk himself back to safety. If it weren't for the fact that he actually does do the Ranch some good now and again, he probably would've been run off a long time ago.
