| Description: |
Commanding a subtly confident air about himself, Gavin is a tall man who, though built lithely, is deceptively strong. Sharp-jawed and narrow-faced, he possesses an angular sort of handsomeness, though he isn't the sort that often has women sighing after him. His straight hair is shoulder-length, naturally glossy in luster, and always slicked back over his head in a utilitarian manner. In color, it's a brown so dark it's easily mistaken for black if the local lighting isn't bright enough. His most striking feature used to be his narrow and slightly slanted eyes, with their unusual deep red color, but nowadays it is what shows when he smiles: the chrome, xenomorphic sheen of his teeth. His toenails have also silvered, but one would have to see him walking barefoot at home to even know this. He is rarely seen outside his house dressed in anything but a slick suit and tie ensemble, and maintains a higher standard of dress even at home: collared shirts and dress slacks, generally. Gavin has taken on some cyborware over the years, but none of it is cosmetic. His eyes are both cybernetic replacements, connected to a cranial implant that allows visual information to immediately be relayed to and from any of his security offices as needed. Tiny implants in his ear canals similarly allow audio information to be transferred both ways as well. Both his arms are completely cybornetic from fingertips to mid-bicep, with transformable parts in his hands and forearms that can form an assortment of tools and simple weapons. All his cybornetic pieces are advanced models, crafted of materials that resist his semi-acidic blood. The suits Gavin rarely goes without are advanced technology in their own right as well, woven of high-grade synthetic materials resistant to a wide variety of forces and elements, designed to offer him protection from anything from gunfire, to magical blasts, to acid. |
| Personality: |
Gavin is a solemn man, not unfriendly but generally serious and no-nonsense--at least on the outside and in professional situations. His voice, his words, and his motions are kept subdued, leaving him often a specter among the bright and flashy throngs of Star City's countless races and dragon-lines, so many of whom are enhanced with cosmetic cyborware. His quietness is to such an extent that on the times he lets a joke or witty remark slip out in mellow tones, those around him are left in faint bemusement as to whether they actually heard him correctly! Loyal and trustworthy beyond few others, Gavin focuses intently on any task presented to him: a significant trait, given the importance of his role in making sure Star City stays fair and free. Though the myriad stresses of his job, a mind-boggling number of xenodragon bonds, and a "family" life upset in horrific ways have played havoc with his demeanor in the recent past, Gavin has finally achieved overall gladness and contentment with his life. He has come to terms with his psionic abilities, the hierarchy of his hive and his union with it, and the effects of the DNA reflex upon his body. Having accepted who he is and what he is capable of, his newly-reclaimed confidence is noticed by those around him, and his happier state of mind has made him a more amiable person to deal with. |
| Biography: |
Born on the Earth of one of the universe's many alternate dimensions (or tiers, as he calls them), Gavin's family emigrated to the planet below Star City when he was very young. In his adulthood, Gavin Vance came to work for the ruling dynasty of the city itself. He was a security officer, specifically an undercover agent, and he was only one of many who had the job of hunting out insurgents and rebels against the totalitarian rule. This was the time of his life where he picked up his cyborware enhancements and multi-purpose suits, so that he could never be caught unarmed and would always have some form of protection about himself without needing to wear bulky technoarmor. But the more rebel bands he infiltrated and the more insurgent leaders he met, however, the more Gavin came to understand their point of view. Eventually he experienced a total change of heart, first sympathizing with them, and then completely agreeing with them. Gavin then became a double agent, working in favor of the would-be freemen instead of against them. In this way, he played his own important role in the sequence of events that eventually overthrew the dynasty and freed Star City. Now Gavin works to ensure that Star City will remain free, as Star City's Minister of Security. He's usually found in his office, but his mind roams with his hive as he sets them upon duties all around the station. Currently Gavin lives in a multi-dragoner suite on Deck Four, of which most of the interior has been resined and reconstructed by his xenodragons (any room the human occupants do not actually use or need, that is). Sharing the space with him and his many bonds are the siblings Keren and Kalaia Tenat, and Keren's bond Nekeress. |
| Abilities: |
Due to the process that affected him when he was briefly host to a chestburster (DNA Reflex), Gavin is gradually developing xeno-like traits of his own.
