Twisted, conniving, and above all, corrupt, Anathema is a bane upon existence. Warped by a being called the Corrupted Wyrm at the end of a long-ago war, she is an abomination to be slain -- if her Dyrmyst and Dalake "kin" ever find out she exists, that is. Though she is a lesser deity, only able to manifest her powers within an area equivalent to a large island or small country, that's more than power enough to manifest her will within the whole of the Twisted Fate when she visits there and makes the crew bend to her whims. Anathema is a manipulative beast, evil by any sense of the word, and views most other beings only as pawns and tools for her own use. She knows how to twist words and perceptions so that people think that she is the one doing them a favor, if it amuses her to do so (and often it does), but she'll discard the game in an instant if it becomes wasted effort. If she cannot use people as they are, she'll corrupt them, and if she cannot do that then she will destroy them if she can, mostly just out of spite. She hates to be foiled in any way and her temper tends to burn as hotly as the vile flames along her spine. Anathema's loyalties lie only with the memory of the Wyrm and with her own bloodline. She does not like losing followers and will make an effort to aid them if circumstances favor it, but she would never die for them. There is also a definite hierarchy of worth in the goddess's eyes that determines the priority of such charity -- her descendants are valued most highly, after which come the servants which she perceives as the most useful. Only the Balespawn can trust Anathema completely. Anyone else who makes a deal with her soon realizes she will only adhere to the word of such an agreement, rather than the spirit of it. She is always careful, however, to not strike deals with anyone that could truly cause her trouble should she renege. Her "peace treaty" with the Twisted Fate is an example of this. It is they who have to fear the breaking of the peace, after all, not her. |
